MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An experienced servant
leader and higher education administrator with ties to the Mountain State has been
named the next president of West Virginia UniversityPotomac
State College.
Jerry Wallace, president of Danville
Community College in Danville, Virginia, will begin his term as PSC president on
Dec. 1.
During the upcoming Mountain
Streams Music Celebration on Saturday, October 26, at WVU Potomac State College,
former music professors will be recognized posthumously for their musical
contributions to WVU Potomac State College, the community, and beyond.
Mountain
Streams Radio, Keyser’s community radio station, will receive a portion of the
proceeds from an upcoming concert of homegrown music, presented by West
Virginia University Potomac State College. The Mountain Streams Music
Celebration is set for Saturday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m., in the Church-McKee
Arts Center. Performers include Hampshire County old-time musician and teacher,
Dakota Karper; Buffalo Run, an eclectic band that includes singer/songwriter
Rob Smith and Keyser native Bob Shank; Critton Hollow, a popular West
Virginia-based trio, celebrating fifty years of performing together; and the
WVU Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Ensemble.

Tyler Blizzard, a double
major in physics and aerospace engineering from Ridgeley, W.Va., was recognized
with the Keyser Rotary Club’s ‘Service Above Self’ award at West Virginia
University Potomac State College.
The West Virginia
University Potomac State College Alumni Association awarded two John Philip Spoerl
Scholarships this past spring. Spoerl, class of 1963, created a perpetual trust
as part of his estate which funds scholarships for students enrolled in
business administration at the College. The most recent recipients are Addison
Cross and Marissa House.
Cross is a business
technology major from Ridgeley, W.Va. House is from Fort Ashby, W.Va. and is also
a business technology major. House is involved
in the Bible study group, Young Life, and is also working with Energy Express
this summer.
West Virginia University
Potomac State College honored many of their students, faculty and staff with
awards and recognition earlier this spring. Students Averi Smith, Madison
Taylor, and Hunter Turner had their names inscribed on the Duke Anthony
Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr Academic Achievement Wall, also referred to as
The Scholars’ Wall.
The Scholars’ Wall was conceived as a
way of recognizing the academic and scholarly achievements of Potomac State
College students, alumni, and faculty. Each year a faculty committee selects
students who exhibit exemplary scholarship and the potential for continued
achievement.
Keith Leo Johnson, Jr., Ph.D., was posthumously
named the 2024 WVU Potomac State College Professor of the Year. Dr. Thomas A.
Habegger (center) accepted the award for Dr. Johnson. Dean of Academic Affairs
Phil Douthitt (left) and Interim Campus President Paul Kreider (right)
presented the award.
West Virginia
University Potomac State College Alumnus Paul E. Gates, DDS, was honored by his
alma mater with the inscription of his name on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry
Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall, during the College’s 84th Recognition
Day Awards ceremony.
